This week at Mobile Tech Manor #11

Another week has flown by, it must be true that the older you get the faster time flies.  It's been a good week for mobile tech and the Manor has been a busy place.  The week has seen too much netbook news that's for sure.  You can't turn around without seeing netbooks all over the web.  I've done a lot of tweaking of my working setup on a lot of levels and spent a lot of time talking to some OEMs about some nice phones coming down the pike.  Come on in and lets shoot the breeze a bit.

This week at Mobile Tech Manor #10- my head is in the cloud

Wow!  It's mind-blowing to me that I'm up to week #10 at Mobile Tech Manor, especially when I think back on how much has happened including a couple of hurricanes.  This week was a gorgeous week weather-wise and saw big activity with lots of things coming in at MTM.  The incoming rush of gadgets led me to look at my cloud computing habits and start refining (and defining) them for real.  There is lots of ground to cover so we'd better get started.

It was the first full week after Hurricane Ike disrupted everything and my trip to San Francisco.  It was great to be home and working normally for the whole week and dealing with real life once again.  This week's column covers some software upgrades, hardware recalls as well as some general observations about how things work at Mobile Tech Manor.  Join me for my weekly column of life at MTM.

This week at Mobile Tech Manor #8

This is going to be a very short recap of the week at Mobile Tech Manor (MTM) with my traveling to San Francisco for most of the week for the Mobilize 08 conference.  The part of the week I was in MTM was dominated by Hurricane Ike and the lack of power.  It will be short and sweet so come on in for a visit to my world.

This week at Mobile Tech Manor #7- iPhone app update wipes user data

I am writing this week's column while hunkered down waiting for the arrival of Hurricane Ike which is bearing down on us here in the Houston area.  This is getting to be a habit as Ike is the third or fourth storm to threaten our area this season.  It is not to be trifled with though as it looks like it's coming awfully close to us.  This week didn't see the arrival of any new gadgets, rather an old friend left the building.  I ran into an unexpected problem with the iPhone App Store that I now believe is putting many people's data at risk.  I experimented with some new programs that are working out pretty well and I also played with some gadgetry that have been at Mobile Tech Manor for a while.  Come on in and have a coffee or tea with me.

This week at Mobile Tech Manor #6

Wow, another week has flown by and life has been hopping at Mobile Tech Manor (MTM).  We successfully fended off Hurricane Gustav this week although over a million people lost power in other parts of the Gulf Coast.  We saw Google play havoc in the browser space this week and while no new gadgets came through the door I had fun playing with some old faithfuls.  There are some new things coming up in the mobile space that have me excited and there's also something I'm trying to figure out what to do about.  Come on in and let's visit for a bit.

This week at Mobile Tech Manor #5

Another week has flown by at breakneck speed and this recap will be brief as most of it was spent with my nose to the grindstone.  A 17-inch aluminum grindstone at that.  This heavy work on the Mac made it very clear how irritating "casual Vista usage" always is.  There were only a couple of new things crossing the Mobile Tech Manor threshold and I'll share my thoughts about those.  I am also reading a wonderful ebook on the iPhone and I can't wait to tell you about that.  There's another hurricane heading our way as it's turning into a very busy storm season on the Gulf Coast so far and I found a cool web site that makes tracking these storms on the iPhone very nice.  Come on in and sit a spell and take a load off for a bit.

This week at Mobile Tech Manor #4- something ate my contacts

Mobile Tech Manor can be a hopping place with new things going on to keep me on my toes.  It can also be a place where problems crop up that must be dealt with and sometimes those can take a lot of time and effort to fix.  This was one of those weeks as something ate my contacts!  I'm still reeling from that one.  Otherwise it was a good week as I kept busy writing fun stuff while poor Kevin was off dealing with personal issues of his own.  To top it off we had five straight days of rain which is unusual for Houston and that played a big part in keeping me at the Manor the entire week.  Pull up a chair and sit a while and I'll share my week with you.

This week at Mobile Tech Manor #3

This week at Mobile Tech Manor (MTM) has been very busy and I'll touch on some of the goings on and things that are going through my mind.  Most of my time was spent with my head down writing and that went very well.  I did get to see some new things I can't yet talk about that will be coming up Real Soon Now and there was that Dell online press event that I attended.  I am currently evaluating a couple of cases for the iPhone 3G that look promising.  Speaking of iPhone a lot of grumbling is being heard concerning the iPhone 3G's throughput and ability to obtain and maintain a 3G signal.

This week at Mobile Tech Manor #2

This week at Mobile Tech Manor (MTM) was one of easing into my new work flow as a full time technology writer.  That's what I have settled on calling myself when asked what I do for a living as many "real" people don't know what a "blogger" is.  I must first tell you that I am enjoying the heck out of this full-time writing gig.  I absolutely love what I am doing and my outlook on life in general has improved to the point that even I recognize it.  It is so sweet to finally be doing what I love to do, and doing it without trying to fit it into time windows of opportunity as I did in the past.

This week I will detail the gear I am using to get this work done and touch on some problems I am contending with currently.  Here you will find general ramblings about how my time is spent and sometimes even why it's spent that way.  I'll also give you an idea of things that are coming up for you to watch for and basically anything else that pops into my head.  That should scare you if nothing else does.  :)
