SOLD: good home for HP 2710p kit

UPDATE: the 2710p has been SOLD.  Thanks to all who contacted me.

I mentioned in a Mobile Tech Manor column a few weeks ago that I have been getting my home office set up.  That process has me evaluating all the gear I own to determine if I should hang on to some of the gadgets I am not using enough to justify keeping around.  It was a hard decision but I am seriously considering selling the HP 2710p convertible notebook that I picked up a year ago.  The 2710p is a capable Tablet PC and has been lovingly maintained.  In addition to the 2710p itself I have added a number of accessories that make it a killer mobile computing solution and everything would go as a package.  This is a golden opportunity for someone to get a great mobile platform in time for the holidays.  Here's the whole package up for grabs:

Hp_2710p

  • HP 2710p- 1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 100 GB HDD, Vista Business
  • Slim-dock- USB, VGA-out, ethernet, power jack, super thin optical drive
  • Slice battery (snaps on bottom), ~10 hours total battery life + internal battery
  • Waterfield Designs SleeveCase
  • Cross PenEnabled Executive pen

My review of the 2710p will give you a lot of information about the Tablet and you can find countless photos of the device here on jkOnTheRun.  The unboxing was captured on video back when I got it and shows off the slice battery and dock as well as the 2710p.  If you are interested in the package email me an offer at jk AT gigaom DOT com.

Happy Thanksgiving from us to you

Today is the day in the US that we set aside to give some thought to and thanks for the things that mean a lot to us and we are taking the day off to do just that.  Kevin and I want to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving.  It is a day to spend time with family and friends and we are doing just that and encourage you to do the same.  Reflect on the things for which you are thankful and relish them for a while.

Kevin and I are both very thankful for the community we have here, and community is what this is.  The support you give us doing what we love to do is heartfelt and we appreciate it more than you can know.  When we share important events in our lives with you we are always amazed at the outpouring of support and well-wishes you give us and for that we are truly thankful.  Thank you for letting us be a part in your lives and we thank you for being a large part in ours.  Have a safe and happy day each and every one of you.

Do you Black Friday?

Cart2 My online activity is driving me bonkers as I am bombarded with a flood of Black Friday heads-ups to make sure I get out the door before sunlight on Friday morning to get those great deals.  I imagine that given the current economic crisis that saving money is even more foremost on people's minds than usual but I have to admit participating in Black Friday just doesn't appeal to me.

I know a lot of vendors are offering online Black Friday deals so you can avoid the crush at the mall but even so my head is swimming from the never-ending stream of deals being "leaked".  I'm not sure how many $400 laptops I can buy anyway.  I suspect I'm not alone in my avoidance of all things Black Friday.  Are you?  Or are you going to hit the pavement this Friday in search of that elusive $5 DVD player?

US Election Coverage roundup

The election here in the states is in full swing and we figured you may be wondering where to get good coverage of the results as they unfurl.  Our sister blog NewTeeVee has produced an excellent summary of coverage that can be found online and you should be able to find some of these on your mobile device while you're out running around.  We're about half-way through the day so you'd better tune in and see where we're headed in the US.

Nope, we never have fun on the GigaOM network

IchatgigaomFor all of those folks that think that everyone on the GigaOM network has a cake job, I have to point out just how wrong you are. Take for example our talented webmaster, Chancey Mathews. He's constantly doing behind-the-scenes work to make the experience the best it can be for you readers. Like right now. You can see by his iChat status that he's hard at work to fix broken feeds so your RSS readers don't go to bed hungry. He's tireless at his job and deserves a pat on the back. And having said that, I should probably change my own iChat status. ;)

Lenovo Magnificent Mile charity needs your help

A friend of jkOnTheRun is an employee at Lenovo and his wife needs your help.  Lenovo (among others) sponsor the Lenovo Magnificent Mile race that raises money to fight Primary Lateral Sclerosis, a variant of Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS).  Our friend's wife, the mother of two young children, suffers from PLS and works tirelessly with this event to help it raise money for research into this incurable disease.  If you are so inclined, check out the event's web site and see if there is something you can do to help.  Thanks.

TypePad Mobile on the HTC Advantage

It is so great blogging on the HTC Advaantage.  Still no HDTV but the above is better than nothing (barely).  The Advantage camera is SO much better than the iPhone's.  :)

Gotta get an HDTV!

College football has begun and I MUST get a TV in here soon. Any recommendations?

UPDATE: Good comments coming in as I knew they would and I now know evough to put some criteria in place for what I think I need.  The house has a custom area built for a TV, visible in the photo above to the right, and this restricts what I can do with a TV.  Based on the size of this space and the size of the room I am leaning toward a 46 - 47" TV.  The space for the TV is very restrictive as it's in the far right of the room due to the fireplace occupying the center space where a TV would work best.  We'll have to live with that.  The room has been pre-wired for surround-sound speakers but I'll defer that due to costs until later.  I'm trying to keep the budget between $1,000 - 1,500 which is also restrictive but that's the way it is.  So far what I'm hearing is that for plasma Panasonic is highly recommended and LCD is Samsung.
