Gigabyte M700 UMPC surfaces at CeBIT

Gigabytem700Engadget caught the M700 napping under glass but running Microsoft Windows Vista on the 1024 x 600 touchscreen. Although many folks will like the slim-bezel design, I know it won't cut it for me. Without some type of palm-rejection on these touchscreen devices, an inkers best friend is actually a larger bezel so you have place to rest that wrist and avoid vectoring. I'm willing to bet the M700 runs Vista adequately since it has 2 GB of RAM to complement the 1.2 GHz VIA C7-M processor. Smart move on Gigabyte's part to include two of their company name on the inside for RAM.

Looks to me like a small web-cam at the top right along with a left and right mouse button. On the left side there appears to be a directional button, scroll bar and zooming features. Storage capacity tops out at 60 GB, so you've essentially got a UMPC with many of the same specs already available in current devices. No major innovation here, but another option for folks looking at 7-inch slate UMPCs when it ships. One standout feature that could sway some folks: a docking station with optical drive for the M700 will allow your companion device to be more versatile when not on the go.

Nice specs, nice screen resolution, now what is the price?

No word on price or availability yet.

@Kevin

i bet its prob not under $1000

honesstly cannot see any UMPC ever taking off with the mass market if costs over $1000... or UMPC themselves... look at all previous devices and their lack of market penetration..

yea, we don't want to pay that much for a device that does half of what a normal $800 laptop can do.. :)

just my $.02
