1.33 GHz Core Solo Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium availability

Gentlemen. Start. Your. Credit Cards! The latest and greatest Samsung UMPC that we played with at CES has found its way into the ordering channels at no less than four online retailers. There's a full listing of places to order one over at the Origami Project, where some early buyers expect to have device in hand very shortly. Prices are ranging between $1,299 and $1,497 for the device that sports a 1.33GHz Core Solo, making it a little more peppy than my 1.0 GHz Pentium M powered unit. These look to be the 80 GB hard drive model, not the expected SSD units.

As much as I'd like to grab one, the price isn't justifying the extra oomph and screen resolution over what I have today with my current budget. So, who's buying?

I am glad Q1 continues to get updated, but I'm with Kevin in that it's too pricey. The good news is the prices of Q1 Ultra models are dropping thanks to introduction of Q1 Premium. I actually picked up a Q1 Ultra yesterday for $715 after rebate. Not a bad price considering I paid $900 for Q1b a year before. I still like the generous screen estate and overall design of Q1 more than any other UMPCs, so I am very happy with my new toy.

I actually think the specs are not so bad here. I think it is overpriced by about $300, the sweet spot for this should be about $1000. And I also am not crazy about the resolution, could I at least get 1280 on this thing. But, the 6+ hour battery life at under 2 lbs at least makes this more useful then any OQO or UX machine.

I think the 0.15mm dot pitch on this display is already too compressed. The overall footprint could be shrunk, though. I give Samsung credit for incorporating feedback and coming out with an improved product. By the way, it's already down to $1251.99 with free shipping.

I purchased one and so far I love it!

Given the performance this unit has been delivering for me so far coupled with the incredible battery life I feel it was well worth the money.

Yes FAIL. They need to rethink the form factor and price.
If there has to be a keyboard put it under and sliding out although I think that really is a limited niche market for that size. My opinion is that for UMPC's they have to get back to the touch interface and perfect that. If you have to have a keyboard you need an ultraportable laptop.
If you want a smaller size drop the keyboard and have a decent touch based interface. Apple seems to understand that.

I might be inclined to agree with you about price, but they are already being listed for $1250 or less and have been out for only a couple of days. Within a month or two the price should settle down to the $1100 or less range.

wls: I'm not sure about the form factor issue. I like having some keys, but I realize I'm not typing any legal briefs on this - I can, however, use the pen to mark up documents. The one thing I am concerned with is the resolution, I'm hoping that 1024 is not too big. But if the battery life is really 6+ hours with wifi, it is a lot more useful then a UX or OQO.
