NewsGator RSS products are set free

Newsgatorgoblackberry James caught wind of this news earlier today, but we had no time to share it with you. The NewsGator family of RSS products might gain a larger audience thanks to the applications changing from a paid-license model to a free one. It doesn't matter what product or platform, they're all free. That includes:

For a long time I used NewsGator Online simply because I could read my feeds on any device. I've since switched to Google Reader, but I'll be exporting my Google feeds into an OPML file and then importing them in to several of these products to see how well they do or don't work for me.

You'll want to read the info on the new offerings because personal data will be collected about your RSS activities, unless you specifically opt out. It becomes a choice of having privacy or providing data in order for NewsGator to offer you Popular Topics based on your data. From a mobile perspective, all of these products can stay in synch, so if you use multiple devices on the go, this could be an alternative to Google Reader, Bloglines and other RSS apps.

I've been using FeedDemon for a long time and think it is a great product. The synchronization via the Newsgator account works extremely well and really meets my needs when it comes to providing access to my feeds on all the various devices that I use.

I thought it was very much worth the cost before and now that it is free, I couldn't recommend it more highly.

JeffGr, I couldn't agree more, one day on a bus ride into work i just decided to bite the bullet and pay for Newsgator Go! for Windows Mobile and Feed Demon. It's quite possibly the best software combination i've ever had the pleasure of using.

I like that it's free now, it's a tad annoying because i only bought it back in August, but now that it's free I can tell all the tight-wads to use it. Also, if i ever move off Windows Mobile or Windows (hahaha), i know i'm going to be able to access all this stuff in the same manner without having to fork over more cash.

Props to newsgator!

I'm firmly situated in the Google Reader camp, now, and really have no reason to switch at this time. Can anyone who has used Google Reader and FeedDemon comment on any significant pros and cons?

Regarding the privacy issue, that could be a show-stopper because, you know, I'm sure Google isn't collecting any personal data about my RSS habits.

:)
