HTC Shift posing again as Cleo on FCC site
Folks waiting for the HTC Shift to appear have one less obstacle here in the U.S.; Unwired View reports that the naughty Cleo 200 has exposed itself on the FCC site. The Cleo 200 looks to be a CDMA / EV-DO version of the Shift, while an identical twin named Cleo 100 shows up as a GSM / HSDPA model.
Warner asks the valid question: is it too little, too late for the HTC Shift? Before CES, I would have said yes based on a few simple facts. 800 x 480 displays are going away in favor of 1024 x 600 screens, the battery life on the Windows side isn't quite up to snuff and we've got new Melow-based units around the corner. Now that I've seen what the next six to twelve months have to offer in terms of UMPCs (which doesn't appear to be as much as we hoped), I think the window of opportunity is still cracked open for the HTC Shift. Not much, but it's not closed just yet. Thoughts?

I think you're right Kevin from what I saw of the CES products, there seems nothing which will pip the Shift, maybe until autumn 2008!
Now if only HTC could up the resolution!

While it was nice to get a hands on at CES, I think their crack is closing rapidly by the day.
They took (are taking) entirely too long to bring this model to market while the industry and changes in the landscape, like the Asus Eee PC, are starting to make the Shift look very old.
Not to mention Fujitsu just updated the P1610 with a (I think) lower price.
After toying with the Shift and the Fujitsu "Stormtrooper" as well as the P1610 at CES, I'd opt for either Fujitsu product (proven, tested, available NOW) over HTC.
I think when the Shift finally becomes available, there will be a great big "so what?" from the industry.

CES proved there is nothing available yet.
HTC Shift has only few other divices that even come close with none of them offering the dual boot.
Sure the higher screen resolution would be nice however it would be coming anyway with the new penryn chips and solid states etc in a Shift 2.0.
...really what else can you get? there is nothing out there today ...not even the Shift but it looks like they will still be the first.
