Messing with the Asus Eee PC... and launching programs by voice
Somehow I glossed over the Voice Command application the Asus Eee PC prior but picked up on it today. In all honestly, I was playing around and video-recording the Eee interface as I used the device to drive my 19-inch widescreen monitor. I wasn't even going to save my video, but the Voice Command function changed my mind. You'll get a quick look at all of the applications as I quickly jump through it, but of more interest might be where I use the device to launch apps. This was done with the integrated mic and generally worked better than I would have thought. A nice mobile feature for an inexpensive laptop... now off to play some more with it!

Kevin,
Have you tried hooking up a USB external disk drive to the eee? I curious if it would work and thus hugely expand the storage capabilities of this device.

external usb drives will work just fine.

Double-confirmed; thanks Aaron! I plugged in an old 40 GB USB drive with no problems. I had some old, unprotected .mp3 files on it and just played one without incident.

It's a full Xandros desktop in there, so pretty much any "Can I do this?" question can be answered by looking at how that works in the Xandros distro.
Aside from the default "simple" UI with the tabs, there's no difference between this device and any other laptop running Xandros.
I think a lot of people still see this thing as some internet device that's running some embedded OS.

Good point Aaron; I might have to post on the Full Desktop option that offers the base Xandros environment. I have that running on the Eee so I can switch back and forth.
