EV-DO Rev A, GPS not under the Xmas tree for Sprint's Mogul

Htc_mogul_2 If you've been a good little girl or boy and expected EV-DO Rev A under the tree for your Sprint Mogul this Christmas, you might want to get out a coal shovel. The good news is that you should have faster 3G before the Easter Bunny arrives, but I'd save some raw eggs for chucking, just in case. BGR has the general info right from North Pole, er Sprint:

"HTC is currently developing a separate ROM update which enables the EV-DO Rev. A and GPS capabilities that are already built into the Mogul hardware.  Sprint and HTC plan to make this software ROM available in early 1Q 2008."

A little GPS action might help get Sprint and HTC off the naughty list everywhere, but I'm hoping Santa can kick the elves the pants and speed up the Rev. A support. GPS is nice but the bow should have been on the package earlier this year. At this rate, Verizon will launch the XV6800 with Rev. A faster, and that's hard to believe!

GPS and Rev A EVDO are due, as I hear it, toward the end of January. HTC has announced what amounts to a bug fix update before the end of November. It's supposed to fix bluetooth, which hasn't worked correctly since day one, and other problems, such as the phone freezing up when moving off of roaming.

Personally, I'll be happy if I have a stable phone at the end of the month. I don't think that's asking too much from an almost $600 phone.

Is it a real GPS chip in there, or triangulating using cell towers? Mogul is a nice device and Sprint's SERO plans are a bargain... hmm.

I just tried Nav4all and it was able to access the GPS with my Mogul and pin pointed my location and drew a few maps and POI's for me. Upon relaunch it locked up but it may be something to check out while we are waiting for the Sprint/HTC release.
