jkOnTheRun video- candid camera Leopard unboxing

Today's video is a real surprise, mainly to Kevin Tofel.  Kevin and I were testing capturing videos from Skype when there was a knock at his door from the FedEx guy delivering the latest version of Mac OS X, Leopard.  Kevin wasn't aware but I started capturing the video as he unboxed Leopard to give us a first look at how small the Leopard box really is.  We compared the size of Leopard to Vista Ultimate in this video so don't miss this.  The video is hilarious, especially when I informed Kevin that I was recording the whole thing.  Take a look at his first reaction to the new Apple OS, it is priceless.  To make things even funnier, we mention in the video something that we should give away to one of our readers, something that is worth quite a bit of cash.  Watch the video, figure out what we are giving away, and send an email to JK (not Kevin) by clicking on my cartoon head in the right sidebar.  In the email do two things:  1) tell me what we are giving away and 2) explain why you want it.  I will choose the winner sometime over this coming weekend so make your entry stand out as I will select the entry I think is best.  Enjoy the Leopard unboxing!

UPDATE:  The reason Kevin and I have been testing recording video from Skype is that we're kicking around the possibility of doing frequent five minute videos of our chats where we discuss mobile tech topics.  Is this something you would find entertaining?  Let us know in the comments.

Great video!! I laughed out loud at the "what kind of geek are you that you don't have a box-cutter!" Good one, guys! :-D

If you guys do decide to persevere with these videos (and don't get me wrong, I'd love to see more), please please please please tell Kevin to lose that hat;)

Sorry Sam. I had bed-head since I woke up a little late this morning. The hat covers it quite nicely IMO. ;)

BTW: for those interested, my Leopard update over Tiger is done. I did skip the DVD disk check as James suggested and it took exactly 60 minutes for the upgrade process.

Don't forget you'll be able to record iChat video sessions as well. For a second I thought that's what the video was recorded from but it seemed a bit grainy. I'd love to see what a recorded iChat session would look like.

There's nothing better than the fact that grown men still turn into kids in a candy store over new toys.

My new desktop arrives today (1.86 Core 2 Duo picked up on eBay for a song. Will be upgrading my elderly 1.8 P4). I feel like I'm headed to the 5 and 10 with a quarter!

And Kevin, don't feel bad about the hat. I where my Mammoth Caves ball cap in public and everything.

That iChat point is well taken and one we've been meaning to try. Looks like now's the time as my Leopard upgrade will be done in 1 minute. :)

Kevin, you fiend!!! Getting Leopard before me!!

Oh wait... that's right. I have to get a Mac.

Always a catch. HA!

James/Kevin - I was wondering, what did you guys use to capture the Skype call?

Ugh. A new toy! You boys behave and play nice!

Lol. Kevin's like "Huh, JK? Did you say something?"

Ryan, we used Camtasia Studio.

Nice little video. I'm going to wait to upgrade to Leopard, in case there are any issues that come up in the first or second week of people using it in earnest. Plus, I have tons of stuff to back up first. :)

I think it would be nice to see a video podcast, especially if you use iChat. All three of the MoTR hosts could link up for an iChat video cast. That would be a pretty cool way to handle it.

Guys,

Most entertaining. More video chats would be great.

:-)

Well, I got the family pack (up to five installs) for our four Macs at home. We decided (collectively) to "sacrifice" one of our daughter's Mac by installing Leopard on it. The installation went fine, but for some reason I cannot get it conected to our home wireless network (it was working fine under Tiger). I get a "Incompatible security" message. Not sure whats going on, but ths has certainly caused me to install it on our other three Macs. Has anyone got this (or similar) problem?

More videos!

I don't mind if you do videos, but please don't do it at the expense of your awesome writeups. I really hate going to cnn.com these days because they force you to watch so many videos to see some of their news blurbs. Sometimes I like to just read it, be done with it and move on. Videos tend to drag on a bit more and take longer to consume and can't be done when i'm trying to be "quiet." love jkontherun though! :-)

So.......the real question at least for me is.....

How do you like Leopard so far?????

;-)
