Vista SP1- Day two and it's coming off

OK, I haven't used Vista SP1 very long, I'm the first who will admit that.  But this afternoon while browsing the web, with nothing else running, I got my first BSOD using Vista on the Fujitsu P1610.  The BSOD caused a reboot of course and upon booting back up OneCare stopped working again.  I noticed also that the volume and battery level icons were no longer in the system tray where they've lived happily since first installing Vista SP0.  Just totally gone.  At that point since my absolute number one criteria for any OS is stability I told myself that if I experienced another BSOD using SP1 that I was rolling back.  Not to Vista SP0 (without the SP1) but to XP.  An hour ago I was trying to use the v740 EV-DO card in the P1610 using the new adapter that showed up this afternoon and during a simple connection to the Verizon network I got BS0D #2.  Or should I say the last Vista BSOD I will ever get on the P1610 because when I have a day free it's going back to XP.  I'll report here when I've done that.  I hate rebuilding devices for no good reason.

You'll have fun with the FlipStart, Zachary. I got to play with one of the first ones in the US and it's a blast. You won't regret getting XP on it which is what I reviewed back in March.

I don't know.. Vista is really pretty.. but I'm continuing to have doubts about it's stability. I haven't had an XP crash in years... why upgrade at this point? Pretty only goes so far, and BSOD's are supposed to be things of the past.

It's not surprising Vista is unstable on your P1610. It was built for XP and Vista drivers were pushed out later. It's relatively the same story with my Q1 and 2 year old standard issue work Dell laptop.
I'm hoping Fujitsu will release an updated version of the P1610 optimized for Vista.

2.5 hours to install, several reboots... and now you're getting BSOD's. Fantastic. Here I was desperately hoping that SP1 would fix the nightmare that is Windows Vista. Now I'm just hoping that SP1's issues are beta bugs.

I should make it clear that I realize this is a very early beta and it's not that unusual to have problems. My decision to go back to XP is because it looks like I am going to have to rebuild the P1610 anyway to get rid of the beta and I want to go back to the performance and stability of XP over Vista.

I put Vista on my original Q1 wth 2gig of memory. It is fairly solid. no crashes in weeks. The main advantage for me is voice recognition which is very good.Way beyond XP's voice recognition. The handwriting conversion to text is also much better.

Doug said Vista on his Q1 is "fairly solid. No crashes in weeks." ? I've had my P1610 with XP Tablet since December. No crashes. Ever. I use it every day and as a GPS navigation system while flying. Just rebuilt the P1610 with a 32GB SSD and it ROCKS with XP. No reason to bother with the Vista-dog. Those Vista CDs can continue to collect dust on the bookshelf.
