Verizon FIOS customers about to gain e-mail storage and wireless access

Verizonlogo As if I already didn't want Verizon's FIOS service enough, now they're going to increase my envy! I'm expecting that we'll hear this tomorrow, but be sure to tell folks you heard it here first: Verizon FIOS customers are about to get an e-mail storage bump and more importantly, wireless access to their home e-mail from select VZW phones. If I'm wrong, forget where you heard it. ;)

The storage bump looks to get folks up to 4 GB, which is actually much more than what I get from a hosted Exchange server. The web interface should get some feature upgrades as well; watch for drag-and-drop  plus better search functions, for example. Access to e-mail on your cell should be via an app that you can download in the Verizon Wireless Get It Now section. I expect the app to be free, but there could be a nominal monthly charge to use the wireless e-mail service under lower priced plans. Some of the initial phones I'm hearing that will be compatible with the service: LG's enV, Chocolate and VX8300 plus the MOTORAZR V3m & V9m. Not bad for folks that want smartphone functions but don't want to pay over-hyped smartphone prices. Even better yet: the same services might get pushed to us lowly DSL customers in the near future.
