Sling introduces Slingbox SOLO in U.S., U.K., and Canada

Soloprofile

Looks like Sling is putting the reported $380 million from Echostar to good use: there's a new Slingbox model out called the SOLO! This fits nicely between the existing AV and PRO models as it provides elements of both. Like the AV, the SOLO controls a single set-top box but adds pass-through output for all inputs. Just like the PRO, the SOLO supports high-def through an integrated set of component jacks; the integration is a much cleaner solution to the PRO in my opinion as I have to use the special HD connect cable with my PRO unit. I've had a pre-production SOLO unit for a few days and it works just as well as other Slingboxes I've used; the design is sleeker and smaller, making it more "consumer friendly" in my eyes. Here's a shot of the back so you can be the judge. I'm going to share the SOLO with James so he can have his first Sling experience from my HD tuner box over the next few days.Soloback_2

Priced at $179.99 in the U.S. ($199.99 in Canada, 129.99 pounds in the U.K.), the SOLO works with the same SlingPlayer software available for all models. Mobile handheld users with Windows Mobile or Palm OS can opt to purchase the SlingPlayer Mobile client. For U.K. placeshifters that want to control up to four devices, the PRO will now be available at 199.99 pounds and includes the HD Connect cable and a DVB-T tuner.

Update: SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian is out of beta and now available for your Nokia device. Sling is offering the Slingbox AV at a discount for Nokia N95 owners and the new 3G N95 in the U.S. will get a free copy of the SlingPlayer Mobile software!

I have 2 Classics and the AV and I must say they put come thought into this model. It truely fits in the lineup with a nice price point and feature set.
Well done Sling Media.
