Sleep mode benefits both types of green: money & Earth

Vistagreen Surely the best way to save power with a PC is to just not use it; after all, if it's completely off and unplugged, you're not using any juice. Of course, most of us actually use our devices, so this isn't a viable option. How many of you completely power down your notebook or desktop and monitor when you walk away from it? Again, not really effective and there's where Sleep mode comes into play.

Did you know that Sleep mode in Vista can save a desktop user around $70 a year in electricity savings? How about this: by using Sleep mode and reducing your electricity need, that savings also equates into approximately half a ton less of greenhouse gas emissions as well. We often think about Sleep mode as it impacts us, i.e.: can my battery get me through the day, so this Microsoft white paper on energy conservation with Vista was a nice change of pace for my morning reading.

I definitely recommend watching Revision 3's Systm Show. Episode 17.
http://revision3.com/systm/energy
They cover energy saving tips and test devices using the Kill-A-Watt meter.
It may change your whole outlook on how you use energy in your house.
