Microsoft Office Mobile 6.1 adds Office 2007 file formats and more
Warner shares the news over at GottaBeMobile: Microsoft has a free upgrade to Office Mobile that supports the Office 2007 file formats. You'll need a Windows Mobile 6 device with Office Mobile as well as 6 MB of free space to install the download. After you upgrade, you'll have gained support for the Open XML file formates used in Office 2007. Additional benefits include:
- Enhanced viewing experience for charts in Excel Mobile.
- Ability to view SmartArt in PowerPoint Mobile.
- Ability to view and extract files from compressed (.zip) folders.

I thought I would try the latest version on my TyTN II, only to find it comes with v6.1 anyway. Thanks, I hadn't noticed!

Microsoft obviously has a hidden interest of not developing full editing of the documents on the mobile devices. Here is another teaser of update to a full set of tools.
No wonder their HPC systems never took off.

Tried the download to my XP machine and found that:
Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Windows Vista (32-bit)
This new version of the Windows Mobile Device Center contains key improvements and new features to support Windows Mobile 6 devices. The Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 is only supported on Windows Vista.

VictorE: looks like Microsoft pulled it temporarily. We have details so stay tuned.
Jack: I think that's the same version we covered in the summer: http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/2007/06/windows_mobile_.html
