Updated: Nokia N95 with 8GB appears on FCC, now with U.S. 3G
Hopefully, there's another model of the N95 undergoing FCC scrutiny because the one that Wireless Info just found isn't showing 3G for the U.S. The tested device was all black and does have the 8GB of memory as well as the new media control buttons we previously saw but the manual has this tidbit in it: "Your device supports 2100 MHz UMTS (HSDPA) network. However, that frequency is not used in North America and has been turned off in your device."
There are instructions in the manual to turn this frequency "on" for a dual-mode solution but it sounds like that won't help N95 owners that want to ride AT&T's HSDPA train. Will there be two new N95 models with 8GB of memory: one for EDGE and one with a U.S. flavor of 3G? Could there be a 1700 MHz N95 coming later to coincide with a T-Mobile 3G launch? Might Matt Miller be adding a WiMAX module to his Nokia phones to one-up the FCC? Tune in later this month for more of "As the N95 Evolves". ;)
Update: Wireless Info reports that another version just hit the FCC site; this one is quad-band with support for HSDPA in the U.S.

If the N95 supports the UMTS 2100 its more likely its target for Japan also, since thats what they use in that Country.

I think it might be one of those rare high-end nokia mobile roll-outs that's a bit late for being "current", but still lacks the hardware you'll want to use in the near future. WiMAX will take some time, and the current HSDPA networks still aren't ready for the "big time" in my opinion.
I'm still hoping there will be yet another N95 with all the goodness of the Black 8GB N95 with all the 3G goodness of the U.S. version + the 1700MHz band needed for a T-mobile hook-up. If not, I may just have to get the Black 8GB until the next hw update.
