Wibree merges with Bluetooth SIG: button cell battery makers dance with joy
The big wireless news o' the day is likely the merging of the Nokia-backed Wibree forum with the Bluetooth SIG. Maybe the button cell battery industry isn't really cutting cake right now, but I can't see that they get too much good news to celebrate so let's let them have their day; I'll tell you why in a sec.
Wibree is a much lower powered implementation for small devices to communicate wirelessly. How much lower? How does about ten times lower grab you? We'll have new Bluetooth profiles added as a result as well: a watch profile and a sensor profile are likely to join the Bluetooth spec party in early 2008. Now do you see why the button cell battery folks are happy? Watch and sensor Wibree devices will likely drive battery sales, depending on the product choices of course. I'm thinking we'll see better implementations of PIM data on your wrist right from the get-go, but we'll have to wait and see....maybe some Vista SideShow watches are in the mix?

All I want is a button on my headset that will have my phone tell me the time (even if it's in a "Microsoft Sam"-type voice).
