Boingo's WiFi plan to dominate the globe
Huge news for folks who don't want or need expensive 3G data plans: Boingo is expected tomorrow to introduce a monthly $39 flat-rate WiFi plan. I'm paying roughly half of that, $20 a month, for my T-Mobile Hotspot plan that allows me Internet access. The difference: I have about 8,000 WiFi locations available to me, while Boingo has cobbled together a WiFi infrastructure with over 100,000 locations globally. For the avid traveler, this type of plan could be a productivity boon while cutting data plan expenditures on EV-DO and HDSPA in nearly in half.
If you're not a jet-setter, you can still take advantage of Boingo's network in your area: Boingo Unlimited is currently $21.95 a month although premium international locations could add further feeds. Plan B is to check out FON: a service that provides routers to individuals who then share their home or business broadband connection. I have a FON router myself, but haven't yet used someone else's FON connection as they're too far and few between at the moment.

How's this going to cut my EVDO data plan expenditures of $45/month in half? ;)
