Integrated radio poll results: WiFi beats WWAN

Jkontherun_poll_1_2

The results are in with over 230 reader votes. I was actually surprised at the results; I thought WiFi would have won out over WWAN by a larger margin....say 75% to 25%. Turns out that WiFi was the integrated radio of choice by 61% of the voters, while 39% would take WWAN as their only choice.

As for me, I'm going to hold off on any swapping of the WiFi card in my UMPC at the moment. First of all, I no longer have a dedicated EV-DO data plan, I only have EV-DO as an add-on service with my XV 6700 and I doubt I can use the radio from that! ;) Thanks for the votes and if there's a question worth asking the readers on Friday, we'll have another poll. If you've got a poll idea, don't be shy: just click on my cartoon head to shoot me your question via e-mail. If the general readership would benefit from the question, we just might use it!

You can use the data plan with XV-6700, assuming you have Bluetooth on your devices that you want to use. You need to add DUN tethering to your plan.

Actually, it can be done via USB, which is much faster as well. I've done that for years; when I said in my post that I didn't think I could use the radio, I meant for an integrated upgrade to my Q1P. ;)

Check into an app called PDANET. It allows all the fun of tethering without the ugliness of a huge bill. I use it with Sprint and my Q1 running Vista and it works great. A friend uses it with Verizon and his laptop running XP and it also works great.
