Two minute "Menlow" UMPC video: TinyScreenfuls
Oh how I love Twitter since it can be faster than RSS feeds. Just read a Twitter that Josh Bancroft 'tweeted': he's got a few minutes of playtime and video with a "Menlow"-based UMPC via a peer at Intel. It's just a prototype of an expected 2008 device of course, but it does boot right up in to XP. It's amazing to see how small the fully mobile computer is; the fact that the new 45 nm Intel chipset runs at a low 2 watts is awesome. I can't wait to see these and even more importantly, how the actual battery life is. Expectations are in the 4 to 6 hour range.

This would be just the right form factor for me. Most other UMPCs are too big for me.

I'll take one! I just hope they don't go nuts with the pricing, or overlook battery battery life. I'm all about pocketable computing, and this would definitely replace both my laptop and pda in one go, provided that its got at least one usb port and the ability to connect to an external monitor :)

Pocketability is everything. Unfortunately for the UXs of this world. What I want is something sized so I truly can keep it in my pocket and it shouldn't weigh more than 350 grams (12.5 ounces). Instead of having an on-board physical keyboard, shave off those millimeters, say 1/4 inch or so, as it will come loaded with Dragon Naturally Speaking since it requires a minimum of 512mb ram, 1GHz processing, make it slighly better. If I truly need to type, I'll just use a foldable Bluetooth keyboard. So, obviously it will need WIFI/Bluetooth A2DP/HSDPA sim card for Europe/GPS and all the rest etc . And I need to be able to use it as a phone as well. Make the battery hot swappable so that the battery life isn't as crucial, and yes, make it run off of mobile phone type batteries, and I will carry them with me. Finally, SSD memory instead of HDD. There you have, manufacturers. Produce it and I'll be pounding at your door.

Just a few additions: it has to have a cam for video conferencing and calls, and a stand feature such as the Nokia N800 has so that I can prop it up on the table. Price wise - keep it under USD 2000. And make a tiny, tiny power supply.
