SlingPlayer for Mac OS X goes gold today

Slingplayer_mac

After over 80,000 beta downloads, Mac owners can remotely watch television using a Slingbox starting today as the client software goes gold! I've been using the SlingPlayer for Mac client with a SlingBox PRO to watch my local HDTV stations and the quality is outstanding; over my home wireless network, I'm enjoying streams with a bitrate over 2500 Kbps. I'll have to see about getting out and about to test the quality over EV-DO, but the experience should rival what I've seen on the Windows side. This shot above is from the Today show in high-def this morning; hey, who says you can't learn about pasta while working?

The download should be available later today directly on the Sling Media download page, so if you've been waiting to run Sling natively (outside of the Windows client under Parallels, for example) be sure to check the Sling site. You'll need Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4

Do you think that the Today show is really what HD was invented for :-)
