HTC Herald clears FCC hurdle

Htc_herald_tmobile
Good-bye T-Mobile MDA and hello HTC Herald! OK, that's not exactly the message sent from the FCC, who cleared the new Windows Mobile 6 smartphone, but I'm reading between the lines. ;) The Herald is an update to the venerable MDA and loses a little girth while improving on the keyboard. Still no HSDPA speeds, but that would be overkill while we wait for T-Mo's 3G rollout this year. For now, you'll get EDGE speeds along with WiFi and Bluetooth on this quad-band GSM handset. If I recall correctly, the Herald gets a boost in the camera department well; last I heard, it should have a 2-Megapixel cam, which is starting to become relatively common over the 1.3 Mps we've seen for a while.

At first, I thought the two hardware soft-keys on the keyboard were out of whack; the right one is fine, but the left one is really in the middle of the 'board, not on the left. Then I noticed how each of them is under the proper spot under the screen; guess I'm just used to my XV 6700! I also like the multi-function key approach: using an Alt+ combo you can launch IE or the Communication Manager.
