Sony PSP upgrade nets free T-Mobile Hotspot access

Psp_firmware_upgrade I never gave in to the Sony PlayStation Portable urge, but I know James did, and I suspect many of you did too. The PSP continues to become much more than a handheld game player and portable media player; the latest firmware upgrade keeps to the trend. Aside from higher resolution H.264 playback at 720 x 480 (which should look stunning on a screen of that size), firmware version 3.30 provides access to T-Mobile HotSpots. PSP upgraders will get six-months of free access to the HotSpots, along with a reduced price after that; no details on what that price is just yet.

Kevin, as a PSP owner that is great news. If it gets more people using/purchasing a wonderful, but highly underrated, mobile device I'm all for it.

However, as great a mobile gaming system and PMP (portable media player) the PSP is, it is slow as molasses browsing the net.

Games, pictures, movies, music, fantastic! Internet, er, well, about as fast as I remember dial-up.

I only connect at home to download hardware updates, games and/or movie trailers so I can set it down while I am doing something else if I don't want to connect to the computer via USB.

According to us.playstation com: "T-Mobile HotSpot service is available only in the U.S. It is not available in Canada." Or anywhere else that isn't the U.S. I take it. Pity.
