Yahoo! Mail gets integrated IM

Yahoo_mail_and_messenger

I never got into the Yahoo! Mail service, but for those that have, you might see integrated Yahoo! Messenger functionality within your e-mail. Similar to the chat features that Google's Gmail has had for some time, Yahoo! is taking more of a unified messaging approach. The integrated service just rolled out yesterday and it's a phased rollout so you may not see it just yet. I don't have it, but Dave Zatz does and he took the above pic of a brief chat we just had. Dave was on his Mac while I was using the web-version of Yahoo! Messenger on the Dash. You can see the different tabs for mail and IM; having various communication methods in one spot is very appealing. I especially like the presence integration: when sending a note to one of your contacts, you can see if they're online and then use IM in lieu of e-mail.
