Toshiba G900: more info
Not that you weren't already mesmerized by the pic of that new Toshiba Windows Mobile 6 device, but we don't want to take any chances. Here's the goods from what we know on the Toshiba G900 with slideout keyboard:
- WVGA support of 480 x 800 in portrait; 800 x 480 in landscape
- Quadband GSM with HSDPA support
- Intel PXA270 running at 300 MHz
- Mini SD slot
- Integrated Bluetooth, fingerprint sensor and 2 Megapixel camera
- 64 MB of RAM, 128 MB of ROM
This harkens back to my Toshiba e805 days as I loved the 640 x 480 screen on that device. Couple of thoughts on the above specs: right off the bat, the newly supported WVGA resolution in Windows Mobile 6 is very appealing, but I hope the screen sizes don't get too small. I believe this is Toshiba's first foray into the phone market; let's hope they get it right. The processor should be fine on this, but I'm wondering why we're not seeing more internal memory; if you're going to hit the market with a bang, why stay with today's traditional RAM / ROM configuration? Still, Toshiba makes this a very compelling phone device based on what we know so far, as well as our extensive experience with their Pocket PCs.

I'd never buy this, but I'd like to give it a fondle. It also seems to me its a device like this that will kill kill kill those abominations from Nokia -- the (non-)Internet Tablet.

This looks strikingly similar to one of the HTC TyTN variants (T-Mobile MDA, Cingular 8525, etc).

Mike, you can rant all you want about the Nokia 770, but until you've tried the N800 I suggest you keep your mouth shut about it. I've read your complaints (and others) about the 770 and experience none of them on the N800, which has a faster processor, better software and loads more available RAM. It's in a class of its own (Internet Tablet is a good name for it) and I'm loving it.

Mike Cane has become a parody of himself.

And i-Mate ups the bar again! Have you seen the latest line of "geek-themed" Ultimate (tm) PDAs they're trotting out? In a word, wow. The specs, if not the actual form factors, are just awe-inducing. The styles are on this side of hideous but the internals simply rock. More info over at PPC Thoughts front page.

BTW, that 7150 with the clamshell flip screen? Like all the PPCs in the Ultimate line it offers ... Intel Bulverde 520MHz processor, 128MB RAM, 256MB ROM, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, 802.11b/g/e/i Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, a 262K-colour VGA display, Mini-USB (v2.0 specification), a video-out port supporting 1024 x 768, a 2.0-megapixel camera, an FM radio, a microSD slot, and Windows Mobile 6... along with a 3.8 inch screen and QWERTY keyboard. wow.
Toshiba, look at the memory specs. Look at them closely before you launch!!

So, I wonder if this (toshiba) phone is a Vista SideShow device also, like the i-Mate Ultimate line? I ask becuase of some of the specs indicate "remote control your pc", unlock pc by bluetooth proximity, use it as a 2nd screen: sounds like the same things that i-mate is promising with the Ultimate...

Hi guys
This has been release this week in the UK.
Spec above is wildly out.
It has 128M Ram, 128M Rom, Marvall PXA270 520Mhz cpu and it's little bigger than the TyTN (actually slightly thinner).
As a real workhorse phone (where the camera is acknowledged as a gimmick and internal GPS are acknowledged as not being up to it ... this is currently as good as it gets. The 7150 sounds great .... but it's really too big. QA may well be suspect .. but the Toshiba looks solid.
Paul.
