SpeedScript: another UMPC input method

SpeedScript is another text input system that's worth a look; the application was originally designed for Windows Mobile devices, but the company shot us a note to tell us about the beta version for Windows XP Tablet Edition. Since Origami devices run that OS, this beta should work nicely on a UMPC and you can download it here.

Since I'm without a currently working UMPC, I could only watch the flash demo. What appeals to me the most is the small size of this virtual keyboard: a real bonus for a small-screen UMPC. The entry system relies on both a tap and drag method; you tap on the consonants, but drag for the vowels. From what I can see, it appears fairly efficient once get used to the keyboard layout. I'd love to run this on the Raon Digital Vega review unit I have (yes, I still have it and will get a review up this week) because that 4.3-inch screen cries for a small but usable text entry system. Unfortunately the Vega runs Windows XP Home Edition and not Tablet Edition.

Well, you brought up the Vega, so here goes:

1) Will it run the Zune software, sync, buy music?

2) Will it run iTunes, sync iPod, buy music?

3) Will it run LimeWire?

4) Will it run/sync Palm Desktp?

5) How's Youtube on it?

6) Got any HWR going on it?

7) Any chance of loading/trying/running Vista?

8) How's vlc on it?

9) How's QuickTime on it?

just install tablet edition. use the dvd that came with sammy.

I just looked at their site, and downloaded the beta (haven't yet installed it though), but there is no mention of requiring a tablet enabled OS. In fact it says:
SpeedScript for Windows desktops, laptops and tablet PCs 0.9

they say that they targeted the Tablet OS, but recommend a Wacom digitizer with their software. They don't recommend just using a mouse. Looks like that might work on any windows device with some form of digitizer input.

I have been using a similar program MessagEase (http://www.exideas.com) for the past year on my Motion M1400...it has been quite reliable....and includes the ability to define text input macros.
