Sony UX-390N available at SonyStyle
jkOTR reader Gabriel tipped us off over the weekend: the SonyStyle store has the UX-390N handheld available for $2,499. This is the 32 GB flash drive version of the UX-series, running a 1.33 GHz Intel Core Solo processor and 1 GB of RAM. The 390N still offers the 4.5-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreen, integrated EDGE connectivity through Cingular and comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows Vista Business. Who's buying?

I like the James Bond edition.

Nice product, horrific price. Sony needs a reality check in my book.

Hey in the UK we will be paying an equivalent of $4000, when they release it, or so the rumour goes. Too much for me

I'd love to have one but day 2 I'd be dropping linux on it. Linux is much better at managing memory so one doesn't need to swap out to the HD all the time. No swapping = longer life.

$2500 is actually pretty cheap for the device considering there is a $1200 SSD drive in there. But in reality they are too expensive for the average Joe. These are expensive toys for rich people! :)
And again, everywhere else than in the US you pay almost the double for this. E.g. buying anything here in Norway you pay 25% tax to the government in addition to the premium price for the reseller here. A minor price increase simply becomes a huge one when the percentages are added up and it hits the shelves.

Ok, done some digging on the UK version (UX1XN). Price will be £1700 + 17.5% VAT for a grand total of around £2,000 ($3,900).
Sonystyle in the UK will begin shipping the UX1XN from the 12th February though having spoken to a local reseller they expect most pre-orders will arrive with the customers around the 23rd February in practice.
I would buy the UX1XN without hesitation if it were closer to the American version in price. At £2,000 ($4,000) I will have to seriously think about it.

They are also releasing a version with a 40GB hard drive for $1999. When you consider all tha you get for the price (it comes with the docking station among other things). This makes it possibly a better value than the OQO 02. I got to play around with the SSD version at CES, and it is definitely usable in terms of speed for regular daily functions (email, web, word processing, etc.). I especially like that it has front AND rear facing cameras.

If it came with HSDPA support rather than just EDGE I'd have ordered one already!
