CNET- get ready for UMPC round 2

CNET is reporting that there will be a number of gen 2 UMPCs unveiling at the CES in just a few weeks and I find this pretty exciting.  In particular we should see UMPCs running Vista appearing at the CES:

The first devices are likely to start shipping when Vista goes on sale at the end of the month. For its part, Microsoft plans at CES to show off the updated Origami software it has for Vista. The "touch pack," as the software is known, aims to make Windows more manageable on a device that typically has a screen smaller than 7 inches. Among the additions for Vista is a customized version of the operating system's built-in Windows Photo Gallery that's easy to navigate through touch.

I can't wait to see these new Vistagami devices and see what the OEMs have in store for us.  Kevin and I will both be attending the CES in January and we have an open request for any UMPC OEMs.  We'd love to see what you are rolling out so drop us an email and we'll be sure to see your stuff.

How does one get approved to be able to attend CES?

OK,so if a small pile of $$$ falls into my lap real soon, I should waitwaitwait before buying a UMPC. So long, Q1. Bring on the Q2, baby!!

Yeah, and I have a half dozen open requests for the OEMs that include more programmable buttons, mouse operations, a way to shut off the fan completely, a docking station, PALM REJECTING, etc.

But I have to say, I adore my Q1, and can't believe I'd feel the need to drop it for a Q2 (or a Fujitsu P1610, for that matter) anytime soon.

See, you *have* a Q. I don't. And after a light fondle of the 1610 today, a Q2 would have to be *very* special to interest me.
