Freeware of the moment: GooSync

Looking for a free method to synch up your Google Calendar with your mobile device calendar? Need a solution that works over WiFi or a 3G connection? GooSync is a free beta that allows you just that. It's actually a free service that acts like an Exchange Server for you calendar data only. You simply register for the GooSync service; once you're all set up, your device will connect to the GooSync servers and shoot your Google Calendar information right to your handheld's calendar.

Not only does GooSync support Palm and Windows Mobile devices with a small download, but it also supports bunches of standard cellular phones from Nokia, SonyEricsson, Audiovox, Motorola and more.

I have been trying to use the gcal sync java app on my 6280 but it doesn't seem to be working. I looked at GooSync as a result but the fact that you have to hand over your google password was just too much for me.
Apparently they are working on a process whereby you share your calendar with GooSync and they can perform the SyncML process without your username/pass.

I know that they have a privacy policy but you have to be registered to even read it. Something doesn't add up in my opinion.

Anyone got any feedback on this?

I've been waiting for Microsoft to do something like this for Live Mail/Calendar/Tasks for Windows Mobile devices. Seems they've completely forgotten the consumer market (like me) and focus solely on the business market. I had hoped the Live for Mobile client would bring it in with the new release but no dice. :-( I'm a student and keep my email, calendar and tasks on Live, but there's no way to sync that to my T-Mobile SDA smartphone.

This app brings us closer to ditching Hosted Exchange.

We have Google Apps for domains (gmail for your domain)
We have google apps for gmail on phones
We now have goosync to sync our calendar
We need a tool to sync contacts. Once this is done we have no need for Hosted Exchange.

I have high hopes for this service when it comes out of BETA, but Goosync currently raises serious security issues. First, you need to give them your Google login info. Second, some Pocket PC and Windows Mobile users might find their calendar data mixed up with other user's calendar data.

Also, Goosync does not support recurring appointments which is a major drawback.

Just wanted to address a couple of issues:

PocketPC duplicate ID's:
This was fixed last week.

Google Username/Password:
We have added Google Authentication Proxy, this means no need to add Google credentials to www.goosync.com simply authorize goosync from within your Google Calendar. This will be added this week.

Recurring appointments:
These will be added this week.
