Nokia 330- GPS navigation in your hand

Nokia has definitely decided to branch out from the phone handset business.  Oh sure, it’s always going to be their core business as they are most assuredly the world’s largest handset maker, but they fired a salvo across the bow of other gadget OEMs when they released the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet.  That device was the first inexpensive handheld Internet appliance that relies totally on WiFi connectivity to reach the web.  As Nokia is readying the next version of the 770 they have released their long-rumored GPS navigation handheld, the 330 Auto Navigation.  On the surface the device is roughly the same size as the TomTom One nagivator that I am using and the display looks very similar to the TomTom Navigator software.  The Nokia 330 adds some hardware buttons on the right side of the display, something I’m not sure I like.  The TomTom One touchscreen interface proves to me that you don’t need hardware buttons to interact with the system and it might have been more useful for Nokia to make the entire device front a touchscreen.  It would allow for a bigger screen anyway.  Nokia hasn’t released much in the way of details but we’ll keep you informed as they become available.  Expect the 330 to appear in Europe in Q4 for about EUROS360.
