Carnegie Mellon developing speech translator that doesn't require speech

When we were kids, we used to emulate foreign movies that were dubbed with English. You know: we would say some gibberish and then move our lips after the fact. If only we had taken that idea and applied a little mobile technology! The BBC reports that Carnegie Mellon is developing a translation device that essentially does the same thing. Instead of actually speaking your words our loud, you simply mouth them silently. The device uses electrodes to determine what words you're (not) saying by analyzing the facial patterns made and then translates them out loud.
