New York Times goes mobile-friendly; Microsoft ads abound

newyorktimes_mobile.jpgLooking for a mobile-friendly version of the New York Times? Just look at this link with a PDA or mobile phone with web-browsing capabilities and you're all set. The NYT announced the new site this morning, which if you're into typing on small keyboards can be found at http://mobile.nytimes.com. There's quite a bit o' buzz on mobile news content these days, much of it due to Dave Winer purchasing a Blackberry and not liking the current mobile feeds. While some would correctly argue that mobile feedreaders have been around for some time, the buzz of known entities like the NYT and Winer will actually help propel mobile news delivery in the mainstream in my opinion.

The mobile NYT site is very simple and easy to follow, plus the pics are thumbnails that you can tap to see in a larger format. All in all; nicely done. Even with all of the Microsoft Windows Mobile ads. ;) Actually, it's ads in something as prevalent as the NYT that could help Windows Mobile move in to the mainstream consumer consciousness as well....

» The Ney York Times goes mobile from freitasm
The reason for this blog post is the launch of the Ney York Times Mobile Edition. This is pretty cool, even though I see this as a marketing move from Microsoft to reach the large readership base of the U.S-based newspaper. The news come down in a handh... [Read More]

It's time for JKOnTheRun.com to jump on this band wagon. As much as I love your site, it's pretty much unreadable on my Cingular 8125. What am I supposed to read when my wife and daughters make me go to the mall with them? This is "mobile tech" Get with it! :)

have you try the mobile version of MSNBC ? http://www.msnbc.com with your pda

Bill, you are absolutely right about the mobile version of jkOTR and it's something that Kevin and I discuss frequently. Unfortunately we are on the TypePad platform and there is no way we can see to produce a mobile version of the site with TP.

One thing I tried just last night which I found works well for viewing the site on the XV6700 is to read the site through the Feedburner feed. It's full article with smaller images and it worked very well for me.

I'll try it. I don't mean to sound overly critical. This is a great site and I realize that it's rot your day job. Thanks so much for your efforts!
