Verizon EV-DO ExpressCard reviewed: Gear Live

V640macbookGear Live got their hands on the Verizon V640 ExpressCard EV-DO modem and provide a review of the modem in a MacBook Pro. The ExpressCard form factor is smaller than the PCMCIA units, but OEMs seem slow to incorporate the new interface. I was surprised to see the throughput speeds, but of course, as we always say: your speeds can and will vary based on location and other factors. Still, I expected to see greater throughput than 370 kbps down and 114 kbps up.

The $99 Verizon V640 is supportVerizon V640 EV-DO ed on Verizon's BroadbandAccess data plan and the card can be used on any Windows 2000, XP or Mac OSX computer with the ExpressCard slot. Now how about an ExpressCard slot on the next gen of UMPCs?
