Truly mobile post from the XV6700

Since we wrote about the new TypePad Mobile client, you know we just had to try it! Using the very lightweight client on my Windows Mobile Smartphone, I quickly snapped this pic of the latest Vista build as I'm setting up the speech recognition. The TypePad Mobile app is working great; I don't see any way to attach URLs, so that was done afterwards on the Vista machine. Oh no; I just realized that now folks will expect us to be blogging EVERYWHERE we go....sorry James! ;)

Kevin, I am confused about the naming convention being used for Windows Mobile devices. The confusion mainly lies when determining whether or not a software will run on a particular device.

As an example of what I am rambling about.....I own a Cingular 2125 which is a Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone Edition. There certain software that will or will not run on thsi device because it is a "Smartphone" edition. When you stated in your post that you are running the software on your Windows-mobile Smartphone is the device truly a "Smartphone" Edition of Windows Mobile or some other version?

Ed, that's a good question that an enormous number of folks have. I tend to classify any Windows Mobile devices that have cellular capabilities to generically be a "smartphone". From an OS standpoint, my XV6700 is Windows Mobile 5.0 but it is the Pocket PC Edition of that OS. Your Cingular 2125, like the Motorola Q, runs the Smartphone Edition of Windows Mobile 5.0.

The issue here is that there are two "editions" of WM 5.0; the one branded as "Smartphone" has a key difference: no touchscreen capabilities. As a result of that input difference, some Pocket PC software will not run on the Smartphone edition of WM 5.0.

Uh, yeah...what JK said. ;) See how confusing the different WM 5.0 editions are? Gee, how could I leave off the PHONE edition part of my phone? Oh, I'm gettin' old....

My first and only post done entirely with my PPC-6700. It took me several days of trial and error. I ended up using a web browser (can't remember which one) to upload my photo to Flickr, then using Flickr's blogging tool to add text and publish. There are at least a couple of blogging apps for Blogger, but if they let you add pictures without entering the html yourself, I somehow overlooked it.
