As published on jkOnThePhone:

Sprint has announced plans to deploy the first 4G nationwide network based on mobile WiMAX technology. The announcement makes Sprint the first US carrier to announce a nationwide 4G network. Sprint will work with Motorola and Samsung to develop the infrastructure as well as the WiMAX-enabled chipsets needed for mobile devices to work with the network. Sprint claims that since their network will use the 2.5 GHz spectrum, their 4G network will reach 85% of the top 100 US markets.

Sprint will invest $1 billion in 2007 and between $1.5 billion and $2 billion in 2008 which clearly shows their commitment to this 4G network rollout. This network could revolutionize wireless broadband in the US once it reaches a significant percentage of the major markets. This is HUGE, people!
