Vistagami in 2007? See it here in 2006.

I guess CNET isn't as crazy edgy as us. Last week, they reported Microsoft's intent for "Vistagami" machines next year. Since I've already publicly declared "I must be nuts", there's really no harm in partitioning off 20 gig or so on the Q1 and giving Vista Beta 2 a try, is there?

Sure enough, the install went without a hitch, just like the Microsoft Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor predicted. Couple key items of note:

• The install did take longer on the Q1 than on other machines I have; I attribute that to the slower 4200 RPM drive in the Q1, less RAM, etc...
• Calibration was off in Vista by about a quarter-inch; there appears no easy way to fix it natively, so it may require some additional software from Samsung or Intel.
• Speaking of Samsung software, none of the hardware buttons are working in Vista. No screen resolution switcher and no on-screen menus.
• When setting up the first user account, there was no visible TIP so I couldn't ink anything. Since you can't get past this screen without some entry, I had to plug in a USB keyboard to proceed.
• Overall, the Vista OS is a little more sluggish vs. the XP OS. I see slight lags with menus and new windows opening; likely due to the more intense requirements needed by the graphical presentation layer.

I won't kid anyone by saying that Vista just screams on the Samsung Q1; it doesn't. Still, the effect of carrying Vista around and using it with just one hand is pretty amazing.

So Kevin is not satisfied having the latest UMPC to hit the market, no, he has to install Vista on it. :) The problems you are having are no doubt due to having no Vista-capable drivers for the touch screen so calibration will be difficult to say the least. It's pretty cool running Vista in the hand, though. You're going to make me install it on the Sony U just to keep up. :)

I'm Curious that will Vistagami products be different than current UMPCs. And i think they won't be easier and even more expensive due to new expensive os.

I've done the same with the ultimate version of Vista.
Touchscreen is working natively, but as you, I didn't find a way to calibrate.
I have to specifically install the bluetooth driver.
To have some of the harware button to work, I have to install the latest video driver from Intel (ver.# 14.20) and then install the "magic keyboard" software. Only U1/2/3/4 are still not working. Changing resolution and calling the on-screen menu are then ok.
Activating vga-out working too... but these video driver permit to have one screen, the other or both... The on-screen menu is then a problem just having only 2 of the possibilities.
I haven't succeded to install the UMPC launcher (menu UI) :(

Yesterday I finally solve the touchscreen problem. Just need to install the TouchKit software.
It is the package named "BASW-00042A" on the Samsung CD.

I've got an Infill T3 car computer that I just upgraded to Vista. Unfortunately for me the upgrade advisor predicted their would be a problem with the USB Touch Screen driver and it was right. Everything else went well and if I can get the touch screen working I'll be in heaven.
