Survey shows more workers than ever connect portable devices to the company network

Tech Digest reports that a recent security survey conducted by Centennial Software indicates that a surprising number of employees are connecting personal devices to work PCs.  The devices range from USB flash drives to MP3 players and PDAs and what I found interesting was how often employees report they do so.  According to the survey USB drives were used by 38 percent of the respondents, PDAs by 21 percent and MP3 players 7 percent, and many of them do so daily.  What surprised me about the survey was that 15 percent of workers report they regularly connect a digital camera to the corporate PC.  I would not have guessed that people would hook up their personal camera to a corporate PC.  Check out the article for complete survey details.

A very timely post for me. I just published an item in one of my weblogs about Samsung banning from its company its own cellular phone! The phone incorporates an 8GB hard drive and Samsung is concerned employees could use the hard drive to download corporate information.

Many companies already ban camera phones. I wonder if phones with large amounts of storage also will be banned!
