Skype 2.5 beta available, brings social aspect

SkypecastSkype just announced the beta availability of version 2.5 and you can see some social networking aspects at play here. Skypecasts are introduced and appear to be public conference calls about a mutual topic for you and up to 99 of the best friends you'll never meet; there's even a directory of Skypecasts so you can search for conversations on your favorite topic. Additional enhancements include the sending of SMS messages via SkypeOut, integrated payment functionality directly in the Skype client, and UI enhancements for easier dialing.

Skype is actually one of my most used apps on the desktop, the Tablet PC and even my Windows Mobile phone; it's great to see additional functionality extend the client even further.

Comments

This is going to be huge for bloggers who will now be able to better interact with their readers. I learned of this from a reader who is asking us to do a Q&A Skypecast right away. I am interested, but want to hear how it actually works in practice before I put 100 people on the line.
