Day 1 with the Samsung Q1

Lisa Gade of MobileTechReview has a Samsung Q1 in hand and while the promised full review is not published yet she is posting her impressions every day for the first week of using the UMPC.  There are some great photos including the very nice packaging and commentary describing how the Q1 fares with everyday tasks.  A lot of people have been grumbling about Samsung's decision to go with the Celeron processor so I found this passage very promising:

Though some have complained about Samsung Q1's specs, namely the 900MHz Celeron, the machine has so far handled Office 2003 applications, Photoshop (working with image files under 10 megs), Dreamweaver with no problems. It is certainly faster than the 2x more expensive OQO and invaluable if you need to run Windows apps on the go but don't want to haul a full-sized notebook. The thoroughly modern Intel 915GM motherboard and chipset with its 400MHz FSB is no slouch, and the 512 megs of DDR2 RAM keep the unit buzzing along nicely.

You can't beat a "real world" test for finding out the real truth about a device. As you all have said, not all devices work for everybody. But being able to "see" how someone uses new devices allows the potential user to say, "Yah that would work for me". I have had a Motion slate for a couple of years and have found a convertible is what I need because of the easy access to a keyboard. I am waiting to see about the Lenovo X60t when it arrives.
