jkOnTheRun exclusive- ALLTP lists the TabletKiosk V-700

I have received word from Allegiance Technology Partners (ALLTP) that they are taking orders for the new TabletKiosk V-700 UMPC. The base price is $899 with 256 MB of RAM and a 40 GB hard drive. If you want to add more memory a 512 MB option will add $65 and 1 GB will add only $130. Delivery is expected in April and will be made on a first ordered, first delivered basis. This is a very nice price point, no doubt due to using the economical Via C7M processor. You can order your own on the ALLTP web site. ALLTP has a "happiness guarantee" which is unique in the industry so if you are not happy with any of their computers you can RMA it within four days and get a full refund, less shipping, as long as the order is in new condition. They also have a 48 hour demo program as I mentioned on a recent OnTheRun with Tablet PCs podcast.

UPDATE:  TabletKiosk has pointed out that they have not confirmed dealer pricing to ALLTP so there is no way the prices on the ALLTP web site can be stated as final.  Based on this information I would not recommend anyone preorder a unit from ALLTP at this time.

Has there been no official word from Samsung or any of the others on price point or shipping dates? I hate when companies announce without making the product immediatly available.

Word travels fast, I think their site is down...

James,

I'd like to clarify a couple of items in this posting - the model number V-700 is a working code name and NOT our UMPC model name or brand. We have NOT published or released pricing to any of our partners as of yet.

The price and product name / model number will be released later this month by TabletKiosk at which time pre-orders will be accepted.

Martin, the information I was given was directly from ALLTP and confirmed on their web site. I apologize if they have posted and supplied incorrect information and I thank you for clearing that up. Sounds like they jumped the gun on this. I would remove my original post but it's already made the rounds via the feed.

Not a problem - I appreciate the enthusiasm that Allegiance Technology showed for the UMPC platform and our company specifically. But I also want to make sure that everybody had the correct information to make an informed decision on a product to be offered by TabletKiosk.

Once pricing and configurations have been released to Allegiance Technology and our other distribution partners, we will fully support and endorse these sites and online sales avenues.

Isnt this V-700 the same device as the Smart Caddie from PBJ?

Bummer! This pricing would be attractive if it had turned out to be true.

BTW, maybe not all of the original paragraph needs to be strikethru, as this is true: "... have a 48 hour demo program as I mentioned on a recent OnTheRun with Tablet PCs podcast."

TDavid, good point and the post has been changed as you suggested. BTW, this was not a "gaffe", I was given incorrect information that I verified on ALLTP's web site prior to posting the original information. Thankfully, TabletKiosk pointed out that there was no way ALLTP's pricing could be final at this point.

This site is also taking pre-reserves without a deposit - all is required is an email address

Actually James, it was correct to use 'gaffe' -- see the definition via http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaffe:

"A gaffe is a mistake said or actioned by a company or individual, usually in a social environment."

The mistake part I'm attributing to you is how you intentionally made this post out to be an 'exclusive' as if it was some huge media event and as it turns out the information was inaccurate.

I guess that's one of the perils of blogging something from a sensationalistic angle. Though I haven't done the whole 'exclusive' thing before, I've made other mistakes along the same lines. We all make them. Thank goodness we're human :)

Have a good day!

Actually, the information was supplied to me by ALLTP directly as an exclusive and that's why I labeled it as such. It has since been proven that ALLTP did have clearance from TabletKiosk to post the information they supplied me with complete with the pricing info but the TK sales rep was in error and thus the confusion.

Comments are temporarily disabled for site maintenance and will return at 6 PM PDT.
