Microsoft beefs up mobile messaging
Microsoft joined forces with Cingular, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone to announce the availability of the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) for all their Windows Mobile 5.0 customers. The MSFP is the upgrade that enables true push email when coupled with a Microsoft Exchange Server running Service Pack 2 (SP2). This will no doubt give RIM a run for their money by competing with the BlackBerry service, assuming RIM is still around in a few weeks. A number of new MSFP compatible phones were also introduced in the announcement today. The full press release is on the Microsoft web site.
I hope this is not the much anticipated Microsoft announcement on wearable Ultra Mobile PCs. I was hoping for devices like the Motion Computing LS800, only thinner, lighter, cheaper, faster and with longer lasting batteries.

To really give RIM a "run for their money" Microsoft is going to have to fix Active Sync. RIM's sync software has been rock solid ever since I got my first 957 (six years ago was it???) and remains so on my recently purchased 7130e.
Active Sync has plagued me from my first exposure to it with my first Pocket PC from HP (name sounded something like Conundrum) up through my last Pocket PC the Toshiba e805. I quit using my Toshiba because I got tired of rebuilding it when Active Sync packed it in one more time.
