Living with push email on Windows Mobile

When Microsoft released the current version of the Windows Mobile operating system they included a feature that customers had been wanting for a long time, push email. Push email can be described simply as the ability to receive email as soon as the sender shoots it to you, without having to manually initiate the email retrieval on the mobile device. The method for enabling push email on Windows Mobile 5.0 is not clear to customers as a quick scan of Windows Mobile users forums makes clear. Many people have the impression that if you buy a Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC or Smartphone then you automatically have push email, but that is not correct. Your device vendor must offer the Adaptation Kit Update 2 (AKU2) as a ROM update for your particular device for the ability to receive email directly to be functional. Mauricio Freitas of Geekzone has written a thorough overview describing what you need to get push email working on WM5 and how it works. Highly recommended.
